monoprints

Monoprints are a spontaneous form of fine art printmaking where the design is painted in reverse directly onto a surface. Next, a damp piece of paper is gently laid on top of the painted surface and fed through a printing press to transfer the image to the paper.  A successful monoprint is created with one pass through the press. Each monoprint is a one of a kind piece of art.

In the 99 Flags series, the paper has been embossed with texture using a carved woodblock as the base for the painted image. While the oil paint colors and image are different for each flag artwork, the embossing of the flag is the same for all.

giclée prints

Giclée prints are reproductions produced by high quality inkjet printers. The first step is to scan the original work at a high level of resolution. Unlike a home or office inkjet printer, the application of the high quality archival inks is more precise, and the color matching allows for more accurate matching of the original image colors. Printers are large in format and able to hold twelve or more ink cartridges, producing a wide range of colors and greater detail. With current technology, giclée prints are of museum quality and have a long lifespan. Purchasing a giclée print will provide many years of enjoyment without fading or decay.
